– – – – – – – –

Music created for a geolocated sound poetry course on the Malraux peninsula in Strasbourg. Texts are written and read by Claudine Bohi and Germain Roesz. The route is available on the GOH app.

In Ec(h)o, artists compose a soundwalk from sound elements collected in a place and its inhabitants. The result is accessible through a smartphone application (GOH).

During his stroll, the listener advances towards what is hidden but yet present, a world created and posed there, another look at a place in everyday life.

It is simply, as Claudine Bohi beautifully wrote in Entre les mots, “to widen the narrowness”.

Music for the show Laisse le Vent du Soir Décider by Espèce de Collectif. Contemporary dance. Creation at CCAM de Vandoeuvre on December 19, 2018.

+d’infos

“Laisse le vent du soir décider” (let the evening wind decide), that’s the title of the show. There are three of us, like three parts of a mechanism, and we are looking to build a robust assembly. It’s actually about finding the right fit.

Here, nothing is static but in constant search for balance. Three, it should lead to stability and the opposite is the case. Here we are, caught in the wheel of a chaotic form. We explore the abutments of a body that resists, that does not want to become a machine. The spirit attracted by the elevation, the pure forms which find only raw material and creaking. The need to restore play where movement is blocked. It is in construction, a projection of ourselves, that we will seek to understand ourselves, to tame ourselves. Find logic in an assembly where the degree of freedom is uncertain. The accumulation of contacts produces movement, disorder, joy. It’s not always easy to understand the complexity of a logic saturated with directions. So “laisse le vent du soir décider” sounds like an ideal, an abandonment, a promise of organization without hierarchy, without command. What can be this engine in us, which authorizes this organicity?

Noise Level

Album published on VoxxoV Records. Selected in the Top 10 best Drone albums of 2016 by A closer Listen.

In his eponymous short story, Raymond F. Jones proposes a sort of allegory of the mechanism of creation. He shows that a new idea is the fruit of an unconscious and complex process of heterogeneous association of ideas, and that it is possible to create favorable conditions to stimulate this process.

This method is even more efficient when one is capable of losing the « noise level » in its thoughts (automatism, archetypes, prejudices…), that gradually confines the mind to the comfort of existent
and certainty, and thereby tends to restrict imagination and make the emergence of newness impossible.

Noise Level is an attempt of sound illustration of this idea and, like in the short story, the library holds a central place. All compositions in this disc are built from real sounds recorded in ordinary
libraries. After transformation, these heterogeneous sounds blend into a new environment, where a coffee machine might as well be a melodic instrument and the sounds of book handling, a
percussion set. The creative gesture then represents a link between the concrete manifestations of reality and the imaginaries…

Music for an audiovisual performance with Philippe Boisnard (audio-reactive video). Performed many times from the confidential creation at La grange aux paysage in Lorentzen (February 2014) until the last performance at the Electric Nights in Athens (April 2016).

Audiovisual performance by Philippe Boisnard and Gaëtan Gromer, co-produced by Les Ensembles 2.2, HP Process and Databaz center.

In this performance, Gaëtan Gromer creates music directly by modifying soundscapes, exotic or shared, from his personal collection. These concrete sounds offer an infinite palette of timbres and textures which serve as raw material for many explorations.

The sound waves thus created will themselves influence the video projected thanks to the modules created and controlled by Philippe Boisnard. Sound landscapes and visual landscapes are here intimately linked and intertwined, changing one another according to the wishes of the two artists.

It is, moreover, this aspect of “live and instant interaction” that makes this performance in perpetual evolution stand out.
